Catholic Identity
The Sacraments are the source of life for the Catholic community. At St. Alexander Parish, we strive to provide a meaningful and engaging sacramental life for our students, faculty and staff.
first reconciliation &
first holy communion
The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are celebrated for the first time in second grade. Our students begin to prepare for these important sacraments as early as Kindergarten with increased instruction in second grade.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to all our students on an individual basis throughout the year, as well as during the Advent and Lenten Seasons.
confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit and is celebrated in eighth grade. Our students prepare for this important day over the course of two years (grades seven and eight), including a Confirmation preparatory retreat and service project field trip.
ALTAR SERVERS
The Mass is the highest, most important form of prayer given to us by God and the Church. St. Alexander Altar Servers is a parish ministry for Catholic boys and girls from the Parish School and the Religious Education Program, in grades 4 and up. Altar servers assist at Sunday morning/Saturday evening Masses, as well as at all school Masses, Stations of the Cross and Benediction during Lent, weekend weddings and funerals. Those who attend St. Alexander School also assist during all school masses and weekday funerals.
Training sessions take place at the church and are directed by the Associate Pastor, Fr. Colm Mitchell.

service projects
St. Alexander School’s mission calls all students to “witness, proclaim, and teach the Good News of the Gospel.” One way we do this is through service. Our students are encouraged to participate in a variety of service projects throughout the year. Jesus’ life focused on serving others. Using His example, we find numerous ways to help those in need.
Some of the service projects we have done over the years include:
The Homebound Card Project
Baby Bottle Project (The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland)
Feed My Starving Children
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Toy Drive (Catholic Charities)
Brown Bag Collection (St. Vincent de Paul Society)
CRS Rice Bowls
Christmas cards for Our Country’s Service Men and Women
